Supportive Services Policy

Effective:        May 10, 2006

Background:

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 was enacted to consolidate, coordinate, and improve employment, training, literacy, and vocational rehabilitation programs in the United States.  Sections 101(46) and 134(e)(2) and (3) of the Act defines supportive services for Adults and Dislocated Workers to include services that are necessary to enable an individual to participate in activities authorized under WIA title I.  These supportive services may include transportation, child care, dependent care, housing and needs-related payments.  Sections 663.815, 663.820. 663.825, 663.830, and 663.840 address the criteria for issuing needs-related payments.

Policy:             Oswego County and the Career Connection can provide supportive services to eligible customers enrolled in Pre-Vocational or Training Services or to enable an individual to accept or retain employment.  This provision is contingent upon following the established protocols and subject to the availability of funds.
