and Training Committee Meeting

‘The Skills and Training Committee shall review and approve training programs, oversee training providers inventory, evaluate training providers and programs, identify strategies for addressing skill gaps, issue consumer report cards for programs, oversee the implementation of the Strategic Plan, and monitor training program performance data.’

Ed Mervine called the meeting to order.
1) Approval of Meeting Minutes from November 18, 2009
Dave Lloyd made a motion to approve the minutes. Donna Donabella seconded. The minutes were approved.
2) Performance Update- Jeanne Apicelli
Jeanne reviewed the WIA performance report for the first two quarters of Program Year ’09 (July though December, 2009). We are meeting all nine performance measures and we are no longer struggling to meet the Youth Literacy/Numeracy measure.
3) Training Update- Jeanne Apicelli
Jeanne reviewed
the Training Program for the first half of PY’09. Thus far, 343 Adults and 211 Dislocated
Workers were active, with 247 Adults and 101 Dislocated Workers completing
their training. There were 28 On-the-Job
trainees (OJT), and 86 Adults participated in Customized training. Individual Training Accounts (ITA’s) have
been utilized to support vocational training for 282 people, with over half (149)
still being utilized by people looking to enter the Medical field.
4) Stimulus Update- Nick Della Penna
Nick updated
the Committee on the status of the Stimulus program. With the funds we were able to:

5) Customer Feedback Report- Training- Jeanne Apicelli
For the 2nd
quarter of PY’09, 16 surveys were returned out of 98 sent. Overall results from all respondents were generally
favorable. The Committee discussed ways
of increasing the response rate for the surveys. It was also suggested that when we have
negative comments from customers, we include how the training agency addressed
the issue.

Training Provider List Update- Nick Della Penna
We have not approved any new training providers since our last meeting.
7)
Literacy Coalition Update- Jane Murphy
The Employer Workforce Literacy Summit, originally
scheduled for February 25, was cancelled due to bad weather. It has been re-scheduled for April 26. John Twomey (NYATEP) will be the featured
speaker.
8) Career
Ladder Map Website Update – Nick Della Penna
We have updated the website with some of
the data supplied by WorkKeys. We have
completed all of the new Industry data, updated all of the links and completed
the salary and wage information. Nick
went on to review our initial tracking report to see who is visiting the
site. The report covers the 4th
quarter of 2009. We will begin to look
at trends and site activity in 2010.
Nick invited the committee members to add narrative profiles for
positions in their organizations.
